Relational Organizing for Political Campaigns
Relational organizing is the practice of reaching voters through the relationships they already have. Instead of relying only on strangers knocking on doors or calling from a phone bank, you ask volunteers to talk to people they know: friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, fellow congregants, or teammates.

Text templates help your volunteers send consistent, effective messages during bulk texting.

As an Admin, you can create up to three templates that volunteers see in the UpVote app when they tap Bulk Text. Volunteers can select one of your templates or write their own, and most will use your templates as their starting point.

Because campaign needs change over time, you should update your templates as your goals change. Early in the campaign you might focus on vote by mail requests. Later you might ask about a voting plan. Close to Election Day, your texts will usually shift to reminders and follow ups to confirm whether someone has voted.

How to create or update your templates

  1. In the Admin Portal, open the Bulk SMS or Text Templates section in Settings.

  2. Add up to three message templates.

  3. Keep them short, clear, and easy to personalize.

  4. Save your changes. Your templates will appear in the UpVote app for volunteers to choose from.

Best practice for your three templates

  • Template 1: Your primary message for the current goal

  • Template 2: A softer, more personal version for closer relationships

  • Template 3: A follow up message for non responders
