Custom fields let you add important data points to voter records beyond the basic information in your voter file.
There are two types of custom fields:
Fields populated from your data provider or Board of Elections data
Common examples: Political party and Vote by mail or absentee status
Fields populated by volunteers through conversations
Common examples: Candidate ID and Vote Plan.
To Add a custom field:
- Go to the Custom Fields page in the Admin Portal.
- Click Add to create a new field.
- Choose the field type:
- Dropdown menu
- Free text
- Date
- For a dropdown, you will add the options (for example: “Independent”, “Democrat”, “Republican”, “Unaffiliated”).
- Set the parameter name
- Pick a clear, short name like “Party”, “Vote by mail status”, “Candidate ID”, “Vote plan”.
- Set visibility options:
- Show on the voter details card for each contact
- Show on the main screen of the app under each contact’s name
- Show during the supporter addition stage (this is only relevant for custom field data you will populate via upload)
