Share campaign actions with the Action Feed

The Action Feed is a list of quick online actions for your volunteers: share a post, watch a video, visit your website, invite friends. You create each action in the Admin Portal, and volunteers complete it from the UpVote app with a tap.

Where to find it

In the Admin Portal, open Action Feed from the menu. The page lists every action with its Title, Platform and Post URL. Click a title to edit the action and see which volunteers engaged with it.

Good uses for the Action Feed

Amplify a post

Ask volunteers to share or repost an announcement, endorsement or video on their own accounts.

Grow the team

Link to your volunteer sign-up page and ask each volunteer to invite a few friends.

Train volunteers

Point to a short tutorial, such as an UpVote Academy video.

Drive traffic

Send volunteers to your website, an event page or a petition.

Create an action

  1. On the Action Feed page, click +.
  2. Fill in the action details described below.
  3. Leave Show post to users checked if volunteers should see it.
  4. Click Save.

TitleThe name volunteers see in the app. Make it an instruction, such as “Share our launch video”.
PlatformFacebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, WhatsApp or Other. Use Other for websites, sign-up pages and videos.
Start DateThe action appears in volunteers’ app only after this date and time.
End DateWhen the action ends. Set it for time-sensitive asks such as an event or a deadline.
DescriptionThe text volunteers see with the action in the app. Say what to do and why it helps.
Post URLThe link volunteers will share or open. Copy the clean link from the platform itself, without extra tracking codes.
Share TextSuggested text attached to the post when a volunteer shares it. Volunteers can still edit it on the platform. Facebook doesn’t support adding text to a shared link, so this field doesn’t apply there.
ImageAn image shown with the action inside the app. It isn’t part of what gets shared.
Show post to usersWhether volunteers can see the action. Uncheck it to hide an action without deleting it.

Test the link before saving. Open the Post URL in a private browser window. If you can’t see the post without being logged in, volunteers may not be able to share it either.

See who took action

Open an action by clicking its title. Below the action details, the Volunteer Activity table lists each volunteer who engaged, with a Post View / Post Share column and the Date. Use it to thank active volunteers and to see which kinds of asks your team responds to.

Like other Admin Portal tables, Volunteer Activity supports search, filters, Manage Columns and Export To CSV.

Help volunteers find the feed

To make the Action Feed the first screen volunteers see when they open the app, go to Settings → App Display and set Initial mobile screen to Action Feed. You can also announce a new action with a notification that links to it.

Tips for actions that get done

  • One ask per action. “Share this video” works better than a list of requests.
  • Keep the feed fresh. Add new actions regularly and hide old ones with Show post to users.
  • Use dates for timely asks. Schedule actions to start when a post goes live and end after the moment has passed.
  • Pair it with personal outreach. Sharing online is a good warm-up, but conversations with people volunteers know are still what moves turnout.

Common questions

Why don’t volunteers see my new action?

Check that Show post to users is checked and that the Start Date has passed. The action won’t appear before its start date.

Why isn’t my Share Text showing up on Facebook?

Facebook doesn’t allow text to be added to a shared link. Put the message in the Description instead so volunteers can write their own caption.

Can I remove an action without losing its activity history?

Yes. Uncheck Show post to users to hide it from volunteers. The action and its Volunteer Activity stay in the Admin Portal.

Give every volunteer an easy next step

A fresh, focused Action Feed gives volunteers something useful to do in a minute, and shows you who is engaged and ready for more.
