Segment Contacts to Send Smarter Bulk Texts with Filters

Video Length: 1 minute
Recommended for: Volunteers ready to send personalized messages to their segmented list based on custom parameters such as political party, Vote-by-mail status, or turnout history.

Overview:
This tutorial teaches you how to send bulk text messages to a specific segment of your contact list using filters in the Mobilize tab — and how to deliver them lightning fast with UpVote’s Apple Shortcut.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How to use filters to segment your list
  • How to write and save a personal message template
  • How to send bulk texts quickly via the UpVote Apple Shortcut

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Filter Your List
Tap the text bubble icon in the Mobilize tab. If you have manager permissions and are assigned access to a group for GOTV, you can tap the text bubble icon on the Groups page as well.
Tap Filter, and select criteria (e.g., voter turnout history, party affiliation, vote method).
Tap Filter List — your Mobilize list will update to reflect only those matching contacts.

2. Choose Recipients
Tap Choose All to select everyone in your filtered list.

3. Write a Custom Message
Tap Edit to write your own SMS template. Be casual — your friends will think it’s from you directly.
Save your template, then select it and tap Next.

4. Send with the Apple Shortcut
One-time Download of the UpVote Bulk SMS Shortcut (iPhone only).
Head back into the app and start sending — your iMessage will auto-open for each contact, and you can fire them off with one tap each.

Pro Tip: Text people who haven’t voted yet and remind them early voting has begun!
